Songsmith, the new offering from Microsoft Research that generates musical accompaniment to match a singer’s voice, is now available for FREE for use in education in the UK.

Songsmith makes it easy for you and your students to create original music – regardless of your innate musical talent! Just choose a musical style, sing into your PC’s microphone, and Songsmith will create backing music for you. Then share your songs with your friends and family, post your songs online, or create your own music videos.

Songsmith is typically available as a 6-hour free trial offer and then must be purchased for a fee. However, Microsoft is making the full product version of Songsmith available for FREE for use in education in the UK. This offer is only available on the Innovative Teachers Network.

Microsoft Image Resizer

A useful download to help reduce the size of Photographs.  When you right click on a JPG or a group of images, there is an option to "Resize Images".  You get a choice of Mobile Device, Small, Medium and Large.  This tool is ideal if you have to upload images to blogs or websites or even just reduce disk space on your computer.
I find this tool invaluable when printing lots of images using the Photo Printing Wizard in XP.
